Introducing the Doctor
Qualifications:BDS (Malaya), FDSRCS (Eng), MDSc (Malaya), AM
Years of experience: 31 years
Area of interest:Dental implantology, sinus lift & bone grafting, surgical removal impacted/wisdom tooth, other minor oral surgery.
Dr Sharifah Munirah is a dedicated Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with over 31 years of clinical and surgical experience (25 years as a specialist/consultant) with Ministry of Health Malaysia hospitals in managing complex maxillofacial trauma, dental implantology, dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery and co-managing oral malignancies and reconstructive procedures. She shows excellence in patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clinical leadership. Passionate in providing safe and quality oral and maxillofacial surgery care in private practice in the field of dental & maxillofacial implantology and other minor oral surgery.
Dr Sharifah Munirah graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Malaya in 1994. She obtained the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (FDSRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000 and her Masters’ degree in Dental Science (MDSc) in Oral Surgery from the University of Malaya in 2001. Dr Sharifah is also a member of the College of Dental Specialist in the Academy of Medicine (AM) Malaysia.
She started her career as a dental officer in the government dental clinic Cahaya Suria in 1994 until her transfer to the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department in Hospital Kuala Lumpur in1995. She then pursued her post graduate studies in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and has worked in a few government hospitals around Klang Valley, namely HTAR Klang (2000-2003), Hospital Kajang (HTPN) (2003-2005) and Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) Serdang (2005-2013) where she was the founding Head of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department when the hospital started its service in 2005. She was appointed as the Consultant and Head of Department of OMFS in Hospital Kajang (2013-2021) and of HSIS Serdang again in (2021-2024). Dr Sharifah was also an honorary consultant and supervisor for postgraduate students in OMFS from University Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and she also supervised post graduate students of the Otorhinolaryngology Departments from UM, UKM and International Islamic University (UIA). She is also still a member of the Dental Specialist Education Committee (DentSEC) – Oral & Maxillofacial Imaging.
