Step 1: Consultation and Planning
You will have a thorough consultation with a skilled oral surgeon or dentist who specializes in implant dentistry. A thorough oral examination, including X-rays and 3D imaging (such as CT scans), will be performed to determine your bone density, jaw structure, and overall dental health. Your dentist will develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. This could include discussing your desired objective, addressing any concerns, and constructing a 3D model to visualize the end result.
Step 2: Surgical Procedure
Local anesthetic or sedative will be used to keep you comfortable during the treatment. Four dental implants are strategically implanted in the jawbone. Two implants are inserted in the front of the jaw, with the remaining two implanted at an angle in the back to enhance bone support and reduce the need for bone grafting. Immediately after implant installation, a temporary set of teeth is affixed to the implants. You may eat, speak, and smile comfortably while the implants fuse with the jawbone.
Step 3: Healing and Osseointegration
Over the next few months, the implants will merge with the surrounding bone, this process is known as osseointegration. During the healing process, you will wear temporary teeth and carefully follow your dentist’s post-operative recommendations. This could include food limitations, dental hygiene routines, and pain management. You will undergo regular checkups with your dentist to monitor the healing process and make any necessary changes.
Step 4: Placement of Permanent Teeth
Once the implants have fully merged with the bone (usually 3-6 months), your dentist will remove the temporary teeth and install a permanent set to the implants. These permanent teeth can be fixed (not removable) or removable, depending on your preferences and the dentist’s advice.
Step 5: Long-Term Care
Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings are required to ensure the health and longevity of your All-on-4 implants. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss on a regular basis.
